ZC.MuNiu Functional Safety Library Product — Functional Safety Library Project for Geely Automotive EPS Controller

Project Background

This project is based on the Renesas RH850/P1M-C platform, providing a functional safety library for a Tier 1 supplier of an EPS controller, which is designed for a Geely vehicle model. The RH850/P1M-C Safety Library developed by ZC enables software safety mechanisms for the RH850/P1M-C platform, including testing of internal MCU modules and drivers for hardware safety mechanisms, ensuring comprehensive functional safety for the EPS controller.

Technical Details

ZC successfully completed the development of the SafetyFrame functional safety library based on the Renesas RH850/P1M-C chip. Deeply aligned with the chip's G3M lockstep core architecture, the solution precisely meets the high real-time and high-safety requirements of the electric power steering (EPS) domain. It fully complies with the ISO 26262 functional safety standard, establishing a core software barrier for the safe and stable operation of the EPS system.

The development addressed three key technical challenges:

  1. Overcoming Multi-Core Collaborative Safety Bottlenecks: Accurately driving the chip’s hardware safety mechanisms to achieve lockstep core redundancy calculation consistency verification and real-time fault diagnosis, ensuring reliable execution of EPS core control logic.

  2. Balancing High Safety Levels with EPS Real-Time Requirements: Optimizing core modules such as E2E communication protection and program flow monitoring to meet ASIL D safety requirements (single-point fault detection rate >99%) while keeping system latency at the millisecond level, satisfying the real-time demands of steering control.

  3. Building a Full-Process Compliance Verification System: Using rigorous methods such as fault injection testing to ensure the safety library can quickly handle abnormal scenarios under complex EPS operating conditions, such as voltage fluctuations and electromagnetic interference.

The safety library has been developed into standardized, reusable modules that support flexible configuration for different EPS vehicle models. This significantly shortens the development cycle of EPS controllers and reduces functional safety compliance costs, fully demonstrating the technical capabilities and industry competitiveness of Hunan Meihu EPS in the field of automotive functional safety software development.

Project Highlights

ZC supported the customer in integrating the Renesas RH850/P1M-C chip SafetyFrame functional safety library, fully meeting the ISO 26262 standard and the high-safety, high-real-time requirements of the EPS domain, thereby building a reliable software safety barrier.

By overcoming core technical challenges such as multi-core collaborative safety and the balance between safety and real-time performance, the project achieved an ASIL D safety target with a single-point fault detection rate exceeding 99%. Leveraging mature technical solutions and full-process professional services, it helped the customer reduce the EPS controller development cycle by over 30%, significantly lowering compliance costs and R&D risks.
